This map shows the roughly 5% of original Indigenous land still retainedby the Indigenous Tribal Nations of the Western Hemisphere. The red areas represent lands either held in trust by federal governments , or where laws demarcate particular areas as held by Indigenous peoples, or where Tribe's outright own their land. This map will evolve over time , especially for areas in Latin America where political and military unrest constantly change Native rights and access to the land. Roughly 54 million Indigenous peoples still live in the Hemisphere, with roughly half of those populations residing within these Tribal boundaries.
