The Lewis and Clark Expedition (1804-1806)-also known as the Corps of Discovery-was a US military expedition led by Meriwether Lewis and William Clark to explore the Louisiana Purchase and find a water route to the Pacific Ocean. Unbeknownst to the Tribal Nation's whose lands these were, the United States now claimed this entire area for itself. This trek covered over 8,000 miles, spanning from Missouri to the Pacific Coast. Along the way the expedition learned valuable knowledge about the geography, flora, fauna, and Native American cultures of the West.

This map shows the expedition from the vantage point of the various Nations whose homelands these were and where many Native American reservations still persist today.
